Ibex Airlines and Miyagi Prefecture Enter into an Agreement That Includes the Introduction of a New Logojet

Yesterday, Ibex Airlines, an airline based at Sendai airport, and Miyagi Prefecture, the prefecture in which Sendai is located, announced a new cooperation agreement in a joint press release.

As part of the new agreement, the airline and the prefectural government aim to mainly cooperate in the following areas:

  • Promotion of the use of Sendai airport
  • Promotion of tourism in the region
  • Promotion of goods made in Miyagi Prefecture
  • Education support
  • Transportation of goods and people in case of disasters

Musubimaru Jet to Debut in May 2018

While the airline and the prefecture plan to cooperate in a number of ways, the most interesting of those – at least for aviation enthusiasts and photographers – is the planned introduction of a new special livery to be worn by an Ibex Airlines CRJ-700.

The livery named Musubimaru Jet will be worn by JA14RJ (although the official graphics show JA05RJ wearing the livery) and will enter into service in May 2018.

The theme of the logojet – Musubimaru – is Miyagi Prefecture’s yuruchara, a mascot representing the region. Being shaped like a rice ball and wearing an armor, it is designed to represent two things the region is known for: rice and Date Masamune, a legendary warrior from the region.

While the Musubimaru Jet might not be as attractive as ANA’s Star Wars Jets or Hello 2020 Jet which is debuting at the end of this month, it is still better than some of the other logojets out there. And, it is definitely something that will add a bit of welcomed variety to spotting at the airports where the airline operates.
