Qatar Airways Launched Daily Flights Between Doha and Prague on August 21, 2017

On August 21, 2017, Qatar Airways operated its first flight from Doha to Prague. While the route was started just two days ago, the airline is already planning to significantly upgrade operations on the route.

Currently, the flight between Doha and Prague is operated daily using Airbus A320s.

The flights are operated under two different flight number sets on different weekdays as follows:

Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Sunday

  • QR291 from Doha to Prague, departing at 8:00AM and arriving at 1:10PM
  • QR292 from Prague to Doha, departing at 5:10PM and arriving at 0:10AM the next day

Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday

  • QR289 from Doha to Prague, departing at 2:30AM and arriving at 7:40AM
  • QR290 from Prague to Doha, departing at 9:15AM and arriving at 4:15PM

Likely Upgrade to an A330 from This Fall

The Prague route was, as usual with Qatar’s European routes, launched using A320 equipment. However, there are reports of Qatar Airways already planning to upgrade the equipment – starting at the end of October.

While the booking system still shows A320 as the type for October as well as November and beyond, the current plans seem to be to switch the type to an A330.

Aiming for Double Daily

Once the equipment is upgraded, Qatar Airways also plans to get the necessary approvals to launch a second daily rotation. Given that the current flights operate at two different times to meet two different departure banks out of Doha, it can be safely assumed that the end goal is to make both of the current flights – QR289/290 and QR291/292 – daily.

Overall, I think this is a great news for Prague-based travelers. Currently, there is a daily Emirates A380 flight that serves as the “bridge to Asia, Africa and Australia” – so it will be nice to have an additional option. Especially so given that Qatar’s two different departure times should help minimize the connection time and allow for better transfer options compared to the single Emirates flight that departs at the same time every day of the week.
